About Gettysburg
Set in the south-central
Pennsylvania countryside, Gettysburgs 200-acre campus is exceptionally
beautiful. Some 60 buildings embody a rich history: one served as
a Civil War hospital; in another, Dwight D. Eisenhower wrote his
memoirs.
Though deeply
conscious of its history, Gettysburg College looks forward and outward.
On one of the nations most wired campusesrich in computing
power, library resources, laboratory equipment, and cultural opportunitiesstudents
and faculty collaborate to prepare for a successful future. Students
also look beyond themselves. Each year almost 1,500 students volunteer
roughly 34,000 hours to local, national, and international organizations
and communities. From re-pairing homes in South Carolina to organizing
community development in Peru, the Colleges Center for Public
Service coordinates opportunities for students to learn through
service to others. More than 50% of Gettysburg students take part
in at least one of 150 off-campus and inter-national studies programs
by the time they graduate. Gettysburg College also offers hundreds
of internship opportunities.
The campus offers
a comfortable home base as students explore the world around them
and prepare for rewarding careers. Residential accommodations are
excellent, and the Colleges food services consistently win
rave reviews. Its no wonder more than 90% of students live
on campus, where theres always plenty to do. Over the course
of four years, Gettysburg College hosts more than 3,200 lectures,
films, plays, concerts, and workshops, and more than 50 art exhibitions.
Within minutes of campus are dozens of restaurants, pubs, and cafés
and the spectacular Gettysburg National Military Park. The campus
also offers a wealth of facilities to help students prepare for
rewarding careers and graduate opportunities.
