CNAV uses common interests to bring together people, places, events, courses, etc. For this reason, you are able to add or delete interests from a wide range of locations within CNAV. Regardless of how you access the Add or Delete Interests function, the screen displays the interest tree.
The interest tree consists of two panes. The right pane includes the interest tree defined for your institution. Navigate this tree as you would the Windows Explorer file tree. To select an interest you wish to add (i.e. log with CNAV), click on the name of that interest in the right pane. As you click, CNAV will display the selected interest(s) in the left pane. To change your mind and remove a selected interest from your search, click on that interest name in the left pane.
Note that there are two types of interests: Node and Leaf. A Node interest is really a secondary interest group positioned under the root in the tree. A Leaf interest is an ending node on the tree. As such, a Leaf interest cannot have any nodes or subordinate leaf interests added below itself. For example, consider the following:
Using this example, Entertainment is a Root (Interest Group). Campus Sports is a Node interest, and all the individual sports listed under Campus Sports are Leaf interests.
When you are adding interests to yourself, you can only add Leaf interests.
Before using the interest tree to add interests, modify the interest properties, if required:

Behind the scenes tracking
By default, Behind the scenes tracking is enabled.
After making all desired additions and/or deletions from the interest tree, click Submit.
