CNAV History

CNAV Systems, Inc. is the outgrowth of a project that began on the campus of Gettysburg College in the summer of 1995. The original goal was to create a Web tool to provide Gettysburg's students with the ability to better navigate through the college's curricular, co-curricular, and extra-curricular offerings. The tool was designed to help the college community discover what Gettysburg had to offer and, more importantly, to discover new connections between those offerings. At the time, we were actually at a loss when it came to describing CNAV because even the concept of a portal wasn't yet a part of the public lexicon.

Since this humble beginning, the CNAV Project has grown in size, scope, and complexity. We've expanded access to include all members of the college community (both on and off campus). In the process, we've taken the best and brightest new approaches to portal technology and integrated those into the CNAV approach. Along the way, we've even developed our own portal technology and added functions that were beyond the imagination of even our most excited users back in 1995. The result is a robust, tool-driven portal that provides our users with the capability to define and meet their own specific needs well into the foreseeable future.
