Clicking Find It Now, Courses, Multiple Condition Search allows you to search for courses using many different fields/criteria. You can enter data into one, some, or all of these fields:
Institution: Select the college, university, or campus you require.
Dept & Course: This field allows you to narrow your selection of courses. Select the department for which you are searching for a course from the drop-down list. The uppermost selection is "ALL" which means "any department". By picking the department name, the tool will only display courses from that department. For example, selecting Art will display only Art classes. Alternately, you can click on Choose Course to select an individual course from the course catalog.
Display: Select the format in which you would like to view the output of your query:
Catalog: This format displays the catalog level description of the course(s). In this view, CNAV does not display section or term level data.
Section: Select Section to list all sections ever taught of a particular course. Section is the default value.
File: This option allows you to output the result of your query in one of two formats: (1) an easily read text file, or (2) a comma-delimited spreadsheet file ready to be opened in any spreadsheet package and sorted or filtered based on your specific needs.
Include courses no longer offered: Use this option to limit your search to current courses or to search for sections offered in the past. By default, CNAV searches all courses, even those not currently being offered.
Show courses with available seats only: Use this option to display only courses that have not been filled. Note that on some campuses, enrollment statistics are updated nightly. Therefore, CNAV cannot guarantee that these courses still have available seats. By default, CNAV searches all courses.
Term: Choose the term (semester/year) you are looking for. If you don't select a term, the default setting is all semesters in all years.
Days of the week: Use this option to limit your search to courses offered only on specific days of the week. If left blank, this field has no effect and all courses for all days will be listed. If you select one day, for example Monday, CNAV will list all courses that fall on Monday, including those that may be MWF classes or MW classes or just M seminar classes. If you select more than one day, CNAV will list courses that fall on either day.
During these hours: Use this option to limit your search to courses offered only at specific times. Select the hour at which the class begins, and always round down. For example, if a class begins at 1:10pm, choose 1pm. If a class begins at 2:35pm, choose 2pm.
Faculty name: Use this option to limit your search to courses taught by a particular faculty member. Enter the name of the faculty member in the space. If you are not sure how to spell the name of the faculty member, enter a partial string. If you wish, you can use the * wildcard within the string. Note, however, that an * is already assumed at either end of the string. Thus, entering "and" has the same effect as entering "*and*". Either entry would return faculty members having names such as Anderson, Flanders, and Kirkland. Also note that if you are searching for courses taught by a particular faculty member, you must select Section as the Display value. Also note if you are searching to find the courses a faculty member will be teaching, you might want to use the Term qualifier to limit your results.
As you enter fields to be searched upon, those search criteria will display in the Search Conditions area to the right of the screen. If you change your mind and wish to remove criteria, simply click on the item to be removed in the Search Conditions area. Once you have specified all desired criteria, click Submit.
