Clicking My Place, My Settings, My Preferences allows you to customize your CNAV environment. You can also access this function from the top of the Cool Stuff screen. You can customize settings in three areas:
Enter all desired changes to your CNAV preferences here. Then, click Submit.
To erase all entered data and start over, click Reset.
Within the General Settings table, you can customize the following elements:
Use internal email: Select the default email account to be used for messages that you send while using CNAV. Tick Yes to have messages sent from your internal CNAV account. Tick No to use your standard (usually, college) email account.
Forwarding email: To have CNAV forward your email messages to an external (non-campus) account, enter that email address here.
Use event descriptions: Use this option to have CNAV display short descriptions of the listed events on your Cool Stuff page. To list only the event names (with no descriptions) on your Cool Stuff page.
Default institution: The provided drop-down list contains the names of all institutions to which you have access. Select the name of the institution that you wish CNAV to use as your default institution.
Default department: The provided drop-down list contains the names of all departments to which you belong. Select the name of the department that you wish CNAV to use as your default department.
Display email: The provided drop-down list contains all email accounts you have registered with CNAV. Select the name of the email account that you wish CNAV to display as your default email account.
Menu option: Select the type of menus that you would like CNAV to display. The options most commonly available are Drop-down and Java:
Drop-down: Drop-down menus list all of your options in a particular category at the same time. This option saves space, is consistent and quick, but may be confusing to new users.
Java: Java menus are the default option for CNAV. CNAV Java menus rely on layers, allowing users to drag through the menus, requiring a click only at the last level selected. As the user mouses over a menu heading, the subordinate menu simply appears as a new layer on the screen. Layered Java menus are probably the easiest to use but are not supported by older browsers.
Desktop theme: Desktop themes allow you to easily customize the look of your start-up screen and subsequent CNAV screens. Select the desired theme from those predefined by CNAV in this drop-down list.
Session timeout: Specify how long you want CNAV to wait before timing out your session due to inactivity. The default setting is 30 minutes.
Session logout: Specify how long you want CNAV to wait before logging you out due to inactivity. The default setting is 50 minutes.
Start page: By default, CNAV displays the Cool Stuff page as your start-up screen. If you wish, you can display a site outside of CNAV as your start-up screen. Just enter the site address in the standard format:
http://www.sitename.com
You can also display a different CNAV page as your start-up screen. To do so, enter the name of that page here. Use the format:
directory/filename.cfm
Note that you do not need to include the entire path (i.e. www.CNAVatYourSchool.com/directory/filename). However, you MUST include the directory path with the filename.
To find the directory path and filename, use CNAV as you normally would to navigate to the page you wish to use as your start-up page. While displaying that page, do one of the following:
In Internet Explorer: Right-click and select Properties. The filename is the last portion of the Address (URL) displayed.
In Netscape: Right-click and select View Frame Source. The filename appears at the end of the title bar on the next screen displayed.
Example: To have CNAV start with Find It Now, People instead of Cool Stuff, enter the following address at Start page:
people/search_people.cfm
WARNING: If you set your new start page incorrectly, the next time you log in you will see the message "Error Occurred While Processing Request. Error Diagnostic Information. An error has occurred. HTTP/1.0 404 Object Not Found." Wait a few or so and the CNAV menu bar will appear over the error message. To get rid of the error, return to My Preferences and correct the Start page specification.
Line count: Use this field to tell CNAV how many lines of text you would like to be displayed on the screen. The default value is 25 lines.

Focus tab color: Use this field to change the color used to display the active (front) tab on the Cool Stuff screen. This color is also used for the title bars of each channel (block of information) on the Cool Stuff page. To change the color assigned, click the Color Picker icon. After you select a new color and exit the Color Picker, CNAV will redisplay the My Preferences screen, showing the new color in this field. However, the new color will not affect the Cool Stuff screen until you click Submit at the bottom of this form.
Background tab color: Use this field to change the color used to display the inactive (background) tabs on the Cool Stuff screen. To change the color assigned, click the Color Picker icon.
Channel background color: Use this field to change the color used as the background for all the channels (blocks of information) shown on the Cool Stuff pages.
Note:
The Focus tab and Background tab colors must show a strong contrast. All text shown on the Focus tab and channel headers will be displayed in the Background tab color. Likewise, all text shown on the Background tabs will display in the Focus tab color.
