The search screen provided by the periodic messaging system allows you to find and view specific email messages sent within CNAV. Note that this searching capability is limited to those email messages sent within and by CNAV, such as system messages sent from CNAV and digest mailings. Periodic message aggregation and searching capabilities do NOT apply to email messages that users receive through email servers outside of CNAV.
The Periodic Messaging Maintenance search screen allows you to search for messages using the following criteria:
Email address of message recipient
CNAV ID of message sender
Subject keyword
Message ID
Time period during which message was sent
Time period during which message was received
Name of file attached to message
Using these criteria, you can search for specific messages or types of messages. This can be especially useful in replying to user requests for debug information, or in responding to user claims that messages weren't received. Using this tool, you can also find and resend any messages thought to be missing in action.
Note that Sent time here refers to the time at which the message was placed in the periodic messaging queue, not the time at which it was actually sent on to the email system for delivery to the recipient. Also note that at first glance, the Sender ID field seems superfluous given that all messages passed through Periodic Messaging are sent by CNAV. However, CNAV does use aliases such as module or machine name in sending some messages. Therefore, it is sometimes useful to search for messages based on those aliases.
You can also browse the periodic messaging queue by asking CNAV to View All Emails. From the message listing screen, clicking the message ID then displays the actual message contents.
This screen also provides summary totals of the numbers of messages recently sent and about to be sent.
