To set or change the default privacy settings for courses, click CNAV Tools, Defaults, Course Privacy Defaults. In the left-hand pane showing the course security menu options, click on Course Security Defaults, Edit. CNAV displays the Edit Course Privacy Defaults screen.
For security reasons, all course privacy defaults are initially set to Off. Therefore, when CNAV is first installed, no data items will be viewable until you adjust the privacy defaults.
This Help section answers the following questions:
You can set course privacy defaults and locks individually for each of the user realms defined for your institution. Note that in addition to the standard user realms, you can also determine whether course information is accessible from the college homepage or will be included in the print directory.
For each item of data listed, you can set the following values for each realm:
N/A: This data item does not apply to this realm. When you select N/A, be sure to Lock this setting.
On: By default, this data item is displayed to users in this realm.
Off: By default, this data item is not displayed to users in this realm.
Locked: When this checkbox is ticked, the settings made above are locked in place and the user is unable to override the default setting.
As you scroll down the list of privacy settings, you will note that the user realm names scroll off the top of the screen. To save screen space, we opted not to "freeze" those titles in place. Instead, we've provided a small gray bar to the right of each set of toggle switches (i.e. N/A, On, Off, Lock). To see which user realm the current setting applies to, simply mouse over that gray bar.
Why are the data items hyperlinked?
The number and types of data items that CNAV maintains about courses are selected by each institution. Instead of providing general help that may or may not list all the data items contained at your CNAV institution, we opted to provide pop-out help for each data item. When you click on the name of any data item listed in the first column of the privacy settings table, CNAV displays a short description of what that data item is.
