Help Realms

The Help Realms tool allows you to perform the following functions:

Add or remove help system access realms

The help system access realms determine who is allowed to view each Help page. These realm designations work in conjunction with the Help file naming conventions described under Creating New Help Files.  Because of the impact on page security as well as the general structure of the Help system, realms should only be added or removed by the CNAV installer or CNAV support technician.

Remove help pages from the online help system

If your campus opts not to implement specific functions provided by CNAV, you may wish to remove the online help that describes those functions. To remove any specific help page, do the following:

  1. Click the View icon under Edit/Delete/View on the row corresponding to the Access Group that contains the Help file you wish to delete.  CNAV displays a Help Pages screen that lists all help files in the access group you selected.

  2. Click the Delete icon under Edit/Delete on the row corresponding to the help file you wish to delete. CNAV will ask you to confirm the deletion.

  3. Click Delete to continue the deletion.

Link Help files directly to CNAV screens to provide context-sensitive help

CNAV provides two types of online help: menu-based help and context-sensitive help. Menu-based help is accessible through the online help system table of contents displayed in the left page of any help screen.  Context-sensitive help appears only when you click the Help icon () while looking at a specific CNAV screen.  To designate an online help file as context-sensitive help, do the following:

  1. Click the View icon under Edit/Delete/View on the row corresponding to the Access Group that contains the Help file you wish to designate as context-sensitive help.  CNAV displays a Help Pages screen that lists all help files in the access group you selected.

  2. Click the Edit icon for the help file to be made context-sensitive. CNAV displays the Modify Help Page screen.

  3. Add the name of the CNAV page(s) for which you wish to use this help file as context-sensitive help.
