Selecting Campus Tools, eReserves, Configure Institution allows you to set the general rules that affect usage of eReserves on your campus.
On this screen, you must first select the institution for which you wish to configure the use of eReserves from the provided drop-down list. CNAV will redraw the screen showing the current configuration of eReserves for the selected institution.
On the redrawn screen, you can set or modify the following information:
Allow patron reports: Tick this checkbox to allow patrons to request reports on eReserve usage. In some states, library circulation data is considered confidential. Therefore, we strongly recommend that you do not tick this checkbox without first conferring with your campus legal counsel.
Require copyright clearance: Tick this checkbox to require copyright clearance for posted materials. In general, posting reserve materials electronically requires the same types of copyright reprint permissions as posting those reserves on paper. In some cases, however, copyright fees do differ for electronic distribution. Whether those fees become higher or lower depends on the copyright owner. One strength of CNAV's eReserves is that it provides excellent reports on how many times materials are actually accessed and the number of unique readers. These figures can be invaluable in ensuring that you don't pay for more access than you really need.
Copyright text: In this text box, enter the copyright notice that you wish to display in the eReserve system. This should be a boilerplate legal notice along the lines of the following:
Under Copyright law, you have the right to view these works, and to print one (1) copy for your PERSONAL use only. You DO NOT have the right to copy the digital representation of these works. Any other copying, reproduction, or dissemination is prohibited by Copyright Law.
As with all legal issues, CNAV Systems, Inc. strongly recommends that you discuss copyright issues with your institution's legal advisors. You can also obtain additional information from the United States Copyright Office (http://lcweb.loc.gov/copyright/) and the Copyright Clearance Center (http://www.copyright.com/).
This screen also displays the following information:
