Clicking Campus Tools, Helpdesk, Helpdesk Tools, System Administrator Tools Create New Helpdesk allows you to create a new helpdesk instance.
Only the helpdesk system administrator can create a new helpdesk. However, once the helpdesk is created, the helpdesk administrator can set the contents and properties of the new helpdesk by using the helpdesk Administrator Tools.
The screen that displays when you opt to Create a New Helpdesk is basically the same screen that appears when you opt to edit the properties of the current helpdesk. However, when you are editing an existing helpdesk, the current institution and helpdesk name appear on the title bar of this form. When you are creating a new helpdesk, only the institution name appears because you have not yet named the helpdesk.
When creating a new helpdesk, enter the following helpdesk properties:
Name: Enter a name for the new helpdesk. This is a required field.
Description: Enter a short description of what the point of this helpdesk is. Please be specific, especially if you are using CNAV within a multi-campus or consortia environment. You really want to be sure that you can tell from the name and description that you are selecting the correct helpdesk.
Workers per ticket: Enter the maximum number of workers that you wish to be assigned to a ticket in this helpdesk.
Icon: Use the Browse button to select an icon file to be uploaded into CNAV. This icon will represent this helpdesk and will appear in the upper-left corner of most screens for this helpdesk. Helpdesk icons must be 32 x 32 pixels. (If you specify a larger icon graphic, CNAV will automatically scale it to 32 x 32.) Currently, the icon file formats supported are JPG, GIF, and BMP.
Color: Select a color to be assigned to this helpdesk. The color you select will appear on the left-side of nearly every screen that applies to this helpdesk. Ideally, you should select a color that is unique for the CNAV installation. To specify the color, use the Color Picker tool.
Activate: Tick this checkbox to make this helpdesk immediately available.
Note that you can go back and change many of these items later. Or, you could leave many of these items to be completed by the helpdesk administrator(s). However, you MUST specify the helpdesk name at this point.
After entering all desired values, click Submit. CNAV will ask you to confirm that you really wish to create a new helpdesk. Click OK. CNAV then displays the Modify Groups screen. On that screen, you must specify an Administrator group.
