CNAV only allows you to edit groups for which you are the owner or a designated editor. You can access the Edit Group screen by clicking the Edit icon next to such a group on either the My Groups listing, or (if your account includes this privilege), by using the Group Maintenance Tool provided within the Group Tools in the CNAV Tools menu.
NOTE: System administrators viewing the Edit Group screen are provided with additional options. For details on the System Administrator view of this screen, click here.
When you edit an existing group, you can change the following fields:
Group name: Use this field to change the group name. Note that you cannot remove the group name altogether. This field is required.
Description: If desired, modify the description that explains the point of this group.
Effective date: Use this field to change the date on which you want this group to become usable. Use the format mm/dd/yyyy. Note that you must enter a 4-digit year. Also note that if you omit this field, the group becomes effective on the date it is activated.
Expiration date: Use this field to change the date on which you want this group to become unusable. Use the format mm/dd/yyyy. Again, you must enter a 4-digit year. If you omit this field, the group does not expire and remains usable unless it is deleted by the group owner.
Activate: Tick this checkbox to activate the group.
Group name shown: Tick the checkboxes for each user realm to which you wish the name of this group to be viewable.
Group name shown to the following realms: Tick this checkbox to allow members of the realms you selected above to view the names of the members of this group.
Group information viewable to public: Tick this checkbox to make information about this group available to the general public (outside of CNAV).
Members can view other members: Tick the appropriate option button to indicate whether you wish members to be able to view other members always, never, or only according to each user's CNAV privacy settings.
Marked for deletion: Tick this checkbox to mark this group for deletion. (Because of the impact of groups throughout many areas of CNAV, actual group deletions must be performed by a system administrator. Thus, your CNAV system administrator will complete this operation once you have marked the group for deletion.)
Members can self-delete: Tick this checkbox to allow members of this group to unsubscribe, effectively deleting themselves from this group.
Members can self-add: Select this option to allow any members of the realms that can view this group to add themselves to this group by clicking Join on a Group Listing screen.
Membership by invitation only: Select this option to restrict membership in this group to only those users approved by the group owners. (When membership is by invitation only, users can Request to join from a Group Listing screen.)
Membership by owners only: Select this option to restrict membership to only those users selected by the group owners. (When membership is by owners only, other users cannot Join or Request to join this group from a Group Listing screen. New members can only be added at the initiative of the group owners.)
Membership: Click on the appropriate link to view or delete members (with or without photos), add members, block members, or add external members.
Generate Email Alias for this group. Tick this checkbox if you plan to associate a digest with this group. (CNAV cannot create a digest without generating an email alias.)
Group communication: Click the appropriate link to set up one of the following forms of communication using this group:
Create a Blackboard course using the members of this group as the "class".
Create a discussion board limited to members of this group.
Create a Digest accessible only to members of this group.
Create events limited to members of this group.
Interests: Click the Edit Interests link to add or remove interests to be associated with this group. CNAV uses the interests defined here in Interest Searches.

After making all desired changes, click Submit.
