From within the Planner, students can add an item of any type by simply clicking Add Item in the grid corresponding to the semester to which they wish to add the item. (If the student is unsure of the semester, she can add the item to the Undecided Items section instead.) The types of items that students can add are determined by the types of existing DYOTs.
Simply put, DYOT stands for Do Your Own Thing. You can think of a DYOT as just an item type. The default item type (i.e. DYOT) is Course. However, a DYOT can be any type of item that you feel students will want to add to their planners. Depending on the options available at your campus, you may want to define DYOTs for Events, Lectures, Trips, Service Learning Projects, Concerts, Volunteering, etc.
To maintain the DYOT options, select Campus Tools, Advising, Portfolio Tools, DYOT Manager. From the DYOT Manager screen, you can do the following:
Add a new DYOT. Type the name you wish to assign to the new DYOT in the text field under Create a new DYOT. Then, click New. CNAV will inform you that the DYOT you requested has been created. Click Continue. CNAV will display a blank DYOT Full Details screen.
Edit an existing DYOT. Select the code you wish to edit from the drop-down list displayed under Edit an existing DYOT. Then, click Edit. CNAV will display the DYOT Full Details screen with all information about the selected DYOT already filled out. From the left frame of that screen, you can also access the DYOT Tools. Using those tools, you can modify the DYOT Prompts, change the DYOT Groups, or make the DYOT available to students.
To return to the Portfolio Tools screen, click Back.
